Engineer Rashid protest against establishment of Army camp

Independent lawmaker and MLA Langate Er Rasheed on Saturday held a protest demonstration in press enclave Srinagar against establishing an army camp in Jablipora village of south Kashmir’s Bijbhera.

People from various localities gathered and joined the protest, besides dozens of AIP volunteers, He said that on one side Government is claiming to minimize the role of Army in dealing with law and order issues but on the other side new camps are being established and that too without following proper procedures.

He said that though our battle is for resolution of Kashmir dispute security agencies cannot be allowed to do whatever they want.

Sources said a company of army’s 2RR occupied the playground in Jablipora village.

The protesters said that they feared the presence of the army camp might bring trouble to them.

“If the Playground is not vacated by army we will come out on roads,” the protesters threatened.

The protesters holding banners displaying slogans like “Is it Militarization or Demilitarization?”, “Don’t Make south Kashmir A garrison”, “Who is ruling? Mehbooba Mufti or Army ?” and “No army camp at Jablipora”.

The protestors also burned cricket gear and questioned establishing an army camp in the village when already two camps exist over there.

Rasheed said that we will never allow the government to make Kashmir garrison and also threatened of an agitation if army camp was not removed from Jablipora.

Rasheed lashed out at chief minister Mehbooba Mufti over protests held by Hindu Ekta Manch in favour of the accused SPO in rape and murder of minor Kathua girl.

Rasheed also termed use of tricolour in the protests of Hindu Ekta Munch as “desecration” of it, while saying that they are “real” anti-nationals.

Rasheed also asked chief minister Mehbooba Mufti to act instead of tweeting over rape and murder of a minor girl in Kathua.

He lashed out at Union government for ‘falsely’ portraying ‘Khelo India’ programme.

“On one hand, Modiji is trumpeting Khelo India, while playground is snatched in Kashmir from the youth,” he said.

Last month the battalion had tried to establish the camp at Shamsipora village of Anantnag falling under police jurisdiction of Kulgam.
