At least 11 soldiers were killed when militants attacked an Afghan army unit guarding a military academy in Kabul on Monday.
ISIL claimed the attack in which at least 15 other soldiers were wounded before the attackers were subdued.
Ministry of defence officials said five militants, armed with rocket-propelled grenades and automatic rifles, attacked the outpost near the well-defended Marshal Fahim academy just before dawn, Reuters reported.
“Two bombers detonated themselves and two were killed by our forces and one was detained alive,” defence ministry spokesman Dawlat Waziri told Agence France-Presse.
Security officials at the scene said the gunmen had used a ladder to get over a wall into the post.
Witnesses said the attack started around 4am, with fighting continuing after daybreak.(Agencies)
