Social media ban evoke widespread response in Kashmir

There has been lot of hue and cry over the social media gag on the employees with employees union mulling to move court against this order. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has also stepped in and has said that nervous government was trying to suppress the aspirations of people in Kashmir. Reports in media at New Delhi suggest that this government orders was based on feedback from different intelligence agencies that Kashmir based government employees were encouraging separatism on social media. In October 2016 J&K government sacked sixteen employees for taking part in the protests which started in entire Kashmir post Burhan Wani killing.
After the government ordered that it’s employs should not use social media either to criticise the government or to do any political comments, the violation will evoke action from the government under law. Government was forced to issue this order after recently an IPS officer in Mumbai said that killing of two hundred local militants in Kashmir was not an achievement but a collective failure. He said that the government shun its path of confrontation with the society. His speech at Mumbai encoded an sharp reaction from the union home ministry who asked the state government to seek an explanation from the officer to explain about the contents of his speech.
On social media networking sites including on Facebook, there were hundreds of reactions all day about this latest government order imposing a ban on its employees to talk about their political advisories. Dr Shah Faisal who became an icon for all IAS aspirants in J&K, wrote on his Facebook page in Kashmiri language that now onwards he will use coded language to express his thoughts on social media. Another local officer said that he will keep on posting whatever comes on his mind. A state employee leader Abdul Kaleem Wani said that they will not adhere to the government ban and will revolt against it. The opposition NC has also criticised the the ban and in the tweet its spokesman Junaid Azeem Matoo said that it was aimed to defame and vilify lakhs of government employees as either terrorists or anti social elements. Hundreds of netizens in Kashmir including large number of women has described the latest ban by the government as a part of a dictatorial policy.
