Weather improves, Leh highway closed

Kashmir Valley is witnessing pleasant days and with improved night temperatures in the past two days. As the western disturbances have yet to touch J&K state, the Met office of Srinagar has predicted dry weather with cloudy conditions till Sunday.

There has been marked improvement in the night temperatures in the twin capitals of Srinagar and Jammu in J&K state due to partial cloud cover and prediction of western disturbances touching the state in the coming days. A senior traffic official told VOV that that Srinagar Leh highway was closed today for traffic as Zogilla pass and Meenamarg received fresh snowfall on Tuesday. He said that traffic would be resumed only when the fresh snow melts and their sure that there are no slippery conditions on the pass.
The met officials in Srinagar said that Srinagar recorded 1.3 degrees and Jammu recorded 11 degrees on Tuesday night. He said that temperatures have increased even in Ladakh region with Leh town recorded -3.7 and neighbouring Kargil town recorded -4 .
However ski resort of Gulmarg and famous Pahalgham resort continued to reel under minus temperatures during the previous night. For those who are embarking on the pilgrimage of Mata Vaishnodevi, the temperatures in the base camp town of Katra were recorded for the previous night at 10.2.
Kashmir Valley still awaits tourists despite getting an early snowfall after a long time at the ski resort of Gulmarg.
