SHRC asks hospital authorities to do the treatment of teenage pellet victim free of cost

Srinagar: Chairman of State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) taking note of media reports of how a Srinagar teenage boy who was coming home after finishing class 11th examination on Friday afternoon was pumped with full cartridge of pellets by security forces. Commission has asked Medical Superintendent of SMHS hospital to provide medicine as well as treatment to this pellet victim free of cost.

Earlier, mother of Zahid Manzoor a 16-year-old boy held protests in the media enclave of Srinagar on Saturday and sought justice from Mehbooba Mufti as she claimed that she was mercilessly pumped with pellets without any reason. Even the senior police officers have admitted that there was no such huge protest in town down Srinagar after Friday prayers which could have prompted the security forces to use pellet gun. Reports said that after the intervention of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti police has ordered a probe of how Zahid Manzoor was fired by pellets in Nawa Kadal area of downtown area of Srinagar when the area was peaceful.

His mother Shameema Bano while talking to reporters in Srinagar said that her son was still in the ICU in serious condition and the pellets had damaged his vital parts within the body. The Superintendent of SMHS hospital told media that his right kidney and gallbladder were removed as they were completely damaged by hundreds of pellets which were pumped into the body of Zahid from close range.
