Srinagar, Nov 07: The dry spell in the rain-deficit Kashmir valley is likely to continue, as according to Weather department, there are no immediate chances of any rainfall till November 13.
A senior official in MeT told that the dry spell will continue till November 13. “The machinery we are equipped with helps us to predict the weather update for the next seven days. So there are no chances of any rain. After November 13, we will accordingly update about the next week’s weather condition,” he said.
The continuous dry spell has worried the saffron growers who say the dry spell has led to low soil moisture, which ultimately results in reduced flower density and hurts the yield. They said the precipitation is much needed for saffron flowers to sprout.
Not only the common people, former chief minister Omar Abdullah also took to twitter: “It’s been a terrible dry spell. It last rained in Srinagar 4-6 weeks ago & there doesn’t seem to be any rain on the horizon,” Omar tweeted. (KNS)
