Is ICRC still operating in kashmir is the question being asked by the family members of those undertrails who are getting no response on the plight of their wards presently lodged in different jails in and outside the state.

The dormant role of ICRC in kashmir has been matter of discussion in media and human rights circles here.

Recently jk high court bar assiciation has said in its statement after visiting Kotbalwal jail in Jammu that the undertrail prisoners were subjected to physical torture and were being kept in small cells in solitory confinement. such statements from bar associations and concerns being shown by parents of arrested youth have brought fresh focus on the working of ICRC in kashmir. Reports said that they have stopped to go to the jails from the past two years but the officials of ICRC in kashmir refused to confirm these reports.
