Swine flu claims life in Ramban

Srinagar;-A 50-year-old man died of swine flu in a hospital here, reports said on Friday.

Sher Singh, a resident of Chanderkote village of Ramban district, died at Government Medical College Hospital here on Sunday, State Surveillance Officer for Integrated Disease Control Programme and epidemiologist Dr J P Singh Jamwal said.

Singh is the second person to die of swine flu in Jammu region in the past two months. On August 25, a 43-year-old woman died of the disease.

The doctor said a total of 48 persons were screened for H1N1 since July this year and only eight of them tested positive for swine flu. Of them, two have died while rest are undergoing treatment.

About dengue, Jamwal said 401 suspected patients were screened for the disease during the past nearly three months.

Of them, 45 tested positive, while the reports of 120 patients are awaited, he said.

He said there was no need to panic as necessary measures have been taken to deal with the situation.
