After HC quashes PSA, Bandipora Court grants bail to Journalism student

Bandipora, : A local court in Bandipora Monday granted bail to a Journalism student of the district in two cases, who was slapped with the draconian PSA Public Safety Act, described as lawless law by the amnesty international.
Judicial Magistrate Bandipora granted bail to Tahir Hussain Mir, 24, into Fir number of 84/2016 and 87/2016 under section 307,188,148,149,336,332,353,427 sections of RPC (Ranbir Penal Code) and ordered his immediate release.
Tahir was arrested in September 2016 and was accused of “disrupting law and order and indulging in stone pelting”.
Earlier, the Jammu and Kashmir High Court quashed his detention order under PSA and ordered government to release him forthwith from the preventive custody.
Son of a late police constable, Tahir was first lodged in Kot Balwal Jail in Jammu and was shifted to Central Jail Srinagar for his exams on the court orders.
Tahir’s handcuffed photographs went viral on social networking sites some months ago when he was brought to appear for his Ist Semester examinations.
Tahir has 13 FIRs registered against him in Bandipora. He’s also been booked under PSA for his alleged involvement in stone throwing incidents, and for “disturbing law and order” in Bandipora district.
State’s education minister Altaf Bukhari also intervened to release about 12 students of various schools and colleges who were detained by the police following their participation in student protests in Sopore town.
The family members of Tahir has appealed the Education Minister and D.G Police of the state to release him on priority as he has suffered a lot and have already missed his two semesters of the academic career.
