Nirmala Sitharamantakes charge as new Defence Minister of India

Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday assumed office as new Defence Minister of India. Sitharaman earlier held Commerce and Industries portfolio in the Narendra Modi-led government and was promoted to the post of Defence Minister during the third reshuffle of Modi cabinet. Sitharaman is the first full-time woman Defence Minister of the country. Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi also held the defence portfolio as additional charge. (Agencies)
