Srinagar: Thousands of people on Wednesday participated in the funeral prayers of slain hizb militants Javaid Sheikh and Aqib Gul of Narbal and Goripora in Srinagar.

Reports said that both the funerals saw a massive participation of people. At least four rounds of funeral prayers were held for Javid Sheikh at his ancestral Churpora (Sadpora) village of Narbal.

Javaid and Aqib were killed along with Sajad of Malaratta in Srinagar after a night-long gunfight with forces in Magam area of Budgam district.

The mourners in both the funerals carried banners extolling slain Hizb commander Burhan Wani, reports said.

As per reports protesters clashed with forces on the Airport road after Aaqib was laid to rest.

Meanwhile, a complete shutdown is being observed in Magam, Aripanthan, Narbal and Beerwah areas of the district to mourn the militant killings, while stringent restrictions have been imposed in old city areas of Srinagar.

Fearing massive backlash, Srinagar administration has enforced restrictions while the body of Sajad is yet to be handed over to his family.
