Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) has boycotted the all-party meeting called by the government to discuss the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the state.

“I am constrained to remind you that in the previous meeting, the Chief Minister committed that before further meetings are called on the issue (of GST), the government’s proposal and all supporting documents would be sent to the participants well in advance. Needless to say, this has not happened; in fact the invitation letter was delivered to me only a few hours before the meeting,”senior National Conference wrote, in a letter, addressed to Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu today.

Rather said that he wouldn’t attend the meeting in his individual capacity.

“The absence of any proposal from the government makes it impossible for my party to finalise its stand on what the government is proposing. Therefore, it is not possible for me to attend this meeting at this late juncture,” said Rather, in the letter.

Rather requested the Finance Minister to share the government’s proposals with the participants in advance whenever “you decide to call such meetings”.

He said this would enable his party to “discuss your proposal and finalize its viewpoint and position.”
