Protests and clashes across valley after Friday prayers
Youth clashed with government forces in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday to protest the killing of a civilian in Shopian district earlier this week.
Scores of youth took to streets after congregational Friday prayers and assembled near Markazi Jamia Masjid Sopore.
The protesting youth were shouting pro-freedom and anti-India slogans.
Forces resorted to tear smoke shelling as the protesters tried to march ahead, triggering clashes.
Joint Resistance Leadership had called for shutdown and protests today against the killing of a youth Adil Farooq Magrey in firing by forces in Ganowpora village of Shopian earlier this week.
Meanwhile,Clashes erupted between Government forces and protesting youth in Hajin town of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Friday.
Witnesses said that hundreds of youth assembled near Jamia Masjid Hajin after prayers and shouted anti-India and pro-freedom slogans.
The youth took out a protest march from Jamia Masjid area and also hurled stones on army good will school Hajin. Government forces deployed in strength near army Good will School used tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters. This led to clashes between protesters and forces in the area.
According to Reports from south kashmir Intense clashes between protesters and government forces broke out in Anantnag town of south Kashmir after Friday prayers, sources said.
As soon as the congregational prayers were over groups of youth took to roads around Lal Chowk and started raising pro-freedom and anti-India slogans. They also raised slogans in favour of militants and against the army.
As the protesters approached near Lal Chowk forces deployed in heavy numbers fired tear smoke shells to disperse them, witnesses said adding the protesters pelted stones on forces triggering massive clashes.
Clashes were going on when reports last came in.
Meanwhile, reports of stone pelting on forces have also reached from Meemender area of Shopian.
