Clashes between protesters and forces triggered erupted in Sopore town of Baramulla district after congregational Friday prayers, triggering shutdown in the area.

Witnesses said that youth assembled near Markazi Jamia Masjid area of Sopore town and staged protest against the student detentions.

The protesters pelted stones on forces deployed in the main bazaar area who retaliated by lobbing teargas shells.

The 400-meter-long stretch from main chowk to Jamia Masjid saw pitched battles between protestors and forces. The street was filled with stones and shells.

Clashes broke out between protesters and forces in Nowhatta area of Srinagar city on Friday, reports said.

Groups of youth started raising pro-freedom and anti-India slogans and pelting stones on forces in Nowhatta soon after Friday congregational prayers ended in Jamia Masjid reports said.

They said that forces used tear smoke shells to chase away the protesters.

The clashes were going on till last reports came in. “No one has been hurt in the incident so far.”
