Srinagar: IGP Kashmir said the  incidents of student violence have   been largely brought under control as about 90 percent attendance has been recorded in colleges and schools across the Kashmir valley.

IGP SJM Geelani, addressing media, said  attempts are being made by certain forces to spread student protests   in new areas and  disturb normal student activities.

“ During inquiry of the Handwara incident  it was revealed that  students were  instigated by outsiders. Some arrests have also been made. It was also established that some students were paid to indulge in stone pelting,” said the IGP.

He said   student protests started at Government Degree College Pulwama, on April 15  where  students pelted stones at police personnel and also attacked private vehicle. The protests then spread to other areas but they have been largely brought under control .
