Srinagar: Dal dwellers have been devastated by rising water levels within this water body and most of the localities within the lake have been partially submerged inflicting heavy losses to them. Gushing waters due to the ice melt from the nallahs which finally end up into the lake like Dachigam and Moulri Nallah coupled with incessant rains have already flooded Dal Lake in the past two weeks.

Hundreds of families within the lake have only one source of income that is their vegetable crop. During the mornings especially summers they sell their vegetable crop in the floating market in dozens of shikaras to their traders. This summer there would be no such market in the mornings as the vegetable crop has been damaged as it has remained submerged due to rising water levels in the lake.

People of Mirbeheri, Sultanpora, Dugmohalla and dozens of other localities are brewing with anger as they have lost not only the source of income but also their shops, dwellings and their houses have been damaged by the flood like situation in the Dal Lake. The Dal dwellers have appealed the government to send the official to assess their losses and have reminded them that the political parties should not come to them only during the season of votes.

As hundreds of families are suffering due to the rising water level in the lake the photographers, visiting tourists and film crew will miss this summer the early morning of vegetable market of DalLake.
