Srinagar: After the ground report about the intelligence agencies about the prevailing situation in South Kashmir, by-poll for Anantnag Parliamentary segment is likely to be deferred. Earlier Election Commission of India has slated this election for May 25. Many political parties have questioned the wisdom of ECI of deferring the election just by a month. PDP candidate from Anantnag Tasadduq Mufti in an interview to Indian Express has said that it is ill-logical on the part of ECI to announce polls without sending even a team to assess the situation.

The Congress-National Conference joint candidate Ghulam Ahmad Mir has already demanded Governor’s rule for participation in this election and has leveled serious charges against Mehbooba Government for subverting democracy in Kashmir. Reports said that by-election for Anantnag may be postponed till November 2017.

Meanwhile, Congress-NC delegation met ECI and discussed overall Kashmir situation especially about South Kashmir and the discussion was about the ground situation in Anantnag. They told ECI that the present Mehbooba Government was not giving them proper security to meet people and to canvass.
